The all-seeing widget

Every now and then, a widget flits onto our radar that is so amazingly widgetty in all the right ways that we can barely contain our excitement. Currently, it’s the latest app from San Francisco-based ad agency Goodby, Silverstein & Partners for Sprint’s mobile broadband service, Now Network that is pressing our buttons. This widget is everyone's dream come true, giving several mini snapshots of what’s going on in the world right now, from eggs being produced by the ton, world energy being used, people stuck in elevators and shopping days till Christmas. An ‘internet buzz-o-meter’ provides at-a-glance comparisons between, say, hip hop and rock’n’roll, or hockey and baseball. With a webcam, you can add yourself to the impressive data-dense dashboard, which also offers live news feeds, live cams and facts and stats that change in real time (world population, babies being born, forests being cut down). Like I said, it’s proper widgetty, so it can be embedded in websites, desktops or social networking profiles.

It's truly engaging with a dashboard view of what's happening in the world - very, very interesting - worth a dekko.
